What it is

An app that reads the ground, the conditions and your measured pace, and tells you whether today fits in the light that is left. It works offline, because where it matters there is no signal.

What it is not

It is not a guide, not a rescue service and not a guarantee. A forecast can be wrong. A path can have collapsed yesterday. A waymark can have been missing for two years with the map none the wiser.

The turnaround assumes you walk the way you have walked so far. If you are more tired today than usual the number is wrong, and it is wrong against you. Leave earlier.

Every figure is the best estimate we can make from the data we have, printed with the hour and the source it came from. It is not a promise.

In an emergency

Call 112. One call raises mountain rescue, the ambulance service and, where it is needed, the helicopter.

The app calls nobody on your behalf. It puts on the screen what you have to say down the phone: where you are, at what altitude, for how long, on which path.

Where the data comes from

Paths, waymarks, shelters and springs come from OpenStreetMap and stay under ODbL 1.0. Contributors are credited in the app, for every massif.

Relief comes from EU-DEM v1.1 / Copernicus, through Tilezen terrain tiles. The forecast comes from Open-Meteo.

What we derive on top of them, meaning slope, wind exposure, fall, walking time and the verdict for the day, is ours.

What is free

Everything that brings you back off the mountain: the offline map, the turnaround, the retreat, the rescue card and the wrong-turn alert. They are free and they stay free. We do not put a subscription between somebody and the way home.

Liability

You use the app at your own risk. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for loss arising from decisions taken on the strength of what it shows.

That does not excuse us from telling the truth about the numbers, and it did not stop us writing the list above.
